Revised plan submitted for Magee campus in Derry

first_imgHomepage BannerNews RELATED ARTICLESMORE FROM AUTHOR Pinterest WhatsApp Journey home will be easier – Paul Hegarty Derry City and Strabane District Council and Ulster University have submitted a revised outline business plan for the expansion of the Magee campus in Derry.The plan outlines the preferred option for expansion of student numbers, with the primary objective of reinforcing and enhancing Derry’s reputation as a vibrant University city.It’s envisaged that by 2025, overall provision at the Magee campus will rise to 9,400 full time equivalent students, with over 2,600 new full time undergraduate places,750 achieved through a partnership with the North West Regional College.Ulster University say they have always remained committed to expansion at the Magee campus. Vice-Chancellor and President Paddy Nixon says they recognise their responsibility as a civic university. He warned, however, that the economic impact of Magee cannot be maximised if student numbers continue to decline as a result of funding cuts.Derry and Strabane Council Mayor Elisha Mc Callion chairs the Strategy Board.She says there is a world-class, internationally focused institution at the heart of Derry, and there is a collective responsibility on everyone to ensure that it flourishes and is accessible.She added the economic and political climate has changed considerably since targets were set in the One Plan, and revised targets must be relevant, ambitious and achievable.That, Mayor Mc Callion says, is the case with the new plan which has been presented today.
