D’Aversa: ‘Parma not happy with result’

Visit: https://subscribe.premiersports.tv/ Parma boss Roberto D’Aversa was “satisfied with the performance against Fiorentina, less so with the result.” The Gialloblu held the home side to a 1-1 draw, but D’Aversa believes they could’ve won had two offside calls not gone against Gervinho. “The performance satisfies me, less so the result. We had to do better, especially with the final pass. Gervinho was called offside two times when he wasn’t,” the coach said in a press conference. The protocol with VAR is to give the benefit of the doubt in tight decisions, but the assistant referee was a little too eager today. D’Aversa revealed that many of his players are not in the best physical condition due to playing three games over the last week amid an injury crisis. “Yann Karamoh stayed on the field despite a sprain, Juraj Kucka and Giuseppe Pezzella gritted their teeth, we are not in optimal condition. We hope to recover players very soon. “We had to suffer in the second half, Fiorentina have excellent technique and important players.” Parma are now 10th in the table, but have only won once in their last five games.last_img read more

Sarri: ‘Juve fortunate in Bergamo’

first_img Watch Serie A live in the UK on Premier Sports for just £11.99 per month including live LaLiga, Eredivisie, Scottish Cup Football and more. Visit: https://subscribe.premiersports.tv/ Maurizio Sarri admits Juventus were “fortunate” to beat Atalanta, sharing Pep Guardiola’s admiration, with injury updates on Cristiano Ronaldo and Federico Bernardeschi. The Bianconeri barely troubled Pierluigi Gollini until Gonzalo Higuain’s equaliser, but they ran out 3-1 winners in Bergamo thanks to a Pipita brace and Paulo Dybala. “It was an entertaining game with tempo and intensity, the kind you don’t usually see in Serie A,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia. “We lost our heads after their missed penalty, thinking of everything except the game of football and allowed Atalanta to take total control. They deservedly went in front. “We were fortunate to score the equaliser in a chaotic move against the run of play and from there on showed belief we could win it.” When Douglas Costa came on, it was effectively a 4-3-3 formation. “I moved Dybala in an attempt to stop Atalanta pouring down the flanks, so we could get a handle on the game again. That system uses up a lot of energy on the midfield. We struggled with Atalanta because we didn’t cover the ball enough in midfield. “Atalanta’s wingers were constantly coming forward, while ours were at times caught in-between. I think everyone will struggle in Bergamo and Pep Guardiola was absolutely right in saying that facing Atalanta is like going to the dentist – even if you emerge relieved, it’ll still hurt. “In the final minutes, we started to attack the spaces that were opening up, whereas we didn’t do that enough before.” Cristiano Ronaldo was left behind in Turin, despite scoring four goals for Portugal. “I hope he’ll be back for the Champions League on Tuesday. He has this little problem that is above all affecting him in training, as he’s struggling to train consistently. “A lot depends on how the lad feels, the fatigue and the need he has at any moment to rest. He felt, and I fully agreed, it was important right now to find a way of training that wouldn’t put extra pressure on the knee. “It’s a solid knee, there are no lesions, but constantly having that pain does take it out of you. I was happy to rest him, as I felt the same way, that it was best to take this time to first of all rest and secondly analyse training methods to see how he could train differently.” Federico Bernardeschi had to be substituted during the first half after struggling to breathe. “Bernardeschi had a knock in his diaphragm and couldn’t breathe. He felt constantly like he was going to be sick, so we’ll see if there’s anything lasting or if it’s just a temporary knock. “Douglas Costa came on and immediately had a slight adductor issue, so we hope that’s not serious either.”last_img read more

Saina clinches Indian GP badminton singles title

first_imgTop seed Saina Nehwal rallied from behind to beat Mew Choo Wong of Malaysia 20-22, 21-14, 21-12 and clinched the women’s singles title in the Yonex-Sunrise India Grand Prix badminton tournament in Chennai on Sunday. After dropping the keenly contested first game, Saina held the temperament and clawed her way back into the contest by pocketing the second game.In the deciding game, the second seed Malaysian often came up with deep returns and powerful smashes close to the back line. Wong score winners twice finding the vacant spots behind Saina, but it was short-lived as the world number six Indian was able to score points almost at will.Meanwhile, another Indian seventh seed RMV Gurusaidutt failed to cross the final hurdle and went down 13-21, 18-21 to unseeded Indonesian Yunus Alamsyah in the men’s singles summit clash. Both Saina and Alamsyah, who won his maiden major title, collected 7000 ranking points.”I was nervous at the beginning and committed too many errors. In the normal course, I should have won in two games, but this being my first tournament in two months, I was nervous. But in the second and third games, I played aggressively,” Saina said.Later in the evening, top seeded mixed doubles pair of V Diju and Jwala Gutta won the title by beating Singaporean combo of Chayut Triachart and Lei Yao 23-21, 20-22, 21-7.Top seed Malaysian combo of Mohd Fairuzizuan and Mohd Zarki won the men’s doubles crown by outplaying second seed Indian duo of Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas, while women’s doubles title went to top seeded pair of Lei Yao and Shinta Mulia Sari of Singapore, who beat Indians Ashwini Ponnappa and Jwala Gutta.advertisementlast_img read more

U-19 India captain Unmukt upbeat ahead of World Cup

first_imgSeven wins in a row speaks a lot about the aptitude of a team playing its first major tournament. If that isn’t enough, the fact that it was the India under-19 team which notched up the feat in the just-concluded quadrangular series featuring Australia, Sri Lanka and West Indies, is definitely more commndable.Speaking to MAIL TODAY, skipper Unmukt Chand said it was a perfect start for the team looking at the u-19 World Cup coming up in August 2012.”The last couple of weeks have been amazing. Starting off with a record breaking win in the opening match against Australia, it was important that we kept the momentum going and that is exactly what we did. Training together for the last two years definitely helped as we know the strengths and weaknesses of each other pretty well,” said Unmukt.”Cricket is a team game, so it was important that everyone contributes and that is exactly what we did. It wasn’t that only a couple of players were performing, it was a cohesive effort. But this is just the start. We need to keep the intensity going and keep the winning form intact as we prepare for the upcoming u-19 World Cup in Australia,” he added.Commenting on his own form, Unmukt said: “It felt good to lead from the front. For me, the onus was always on scoring runs. When I was at the crease, captaincy didn’t bother me as my role was that of an opening batsman. It was only when I was back in the pavilion and on the field that I concentrated on captaincy. I never mixed the two roles.” But Unmukt feels being the second highest scorer definitely helped him lead the side. “I won’t disagree that as a captain it was important to score runs because it rubs off the confidence on the other players as well. Moreover, for a skipper to not score means that it would play on my mind when I took the field. Egging the team on becomes an issue then.advertisement”My scoring runs meant that I earned my place in the squad. It is important that other players in the team don’t feel that I am playing only because I am the captain. I should justify my place in the team at all times and I feel I did that. The captain garners more respect when he contributes to the team’s cause,” he said.Although the team will be disbanding and the players will go back for the domestic season, Unmukt feels it will be important that the team re- groups soon after and plays as many tournaments as possible in the leadup to the World Cup.”Even though we are all heading home to play the domestic season, we shall all come together after that and play in as many tournaments as possible to prepare for Australia.”We have a series lined up in April, but I think we shall play one or two more series before that. It is important not to lose focus and momentum. All the players are confident and we need to build on that,” he signed off.last_img read more

Thompson’s injury another blow for struggling Cavaliers

first_imgAs the Cavs regrouped at practice before leaving to play the Washington Wizards on Friday, there were signs of concern or panic about the slow start from such an experienced team. Losses are going to happen.“No one in here is a rookie,” Wade said. “Everyone in here has been through it. Lots of guys have been through the highest of the highs and the lowest of the lows. It’s frustrating when you’re going through it.We have to continue to understand that we’re going to get out of this together and this is going to be a distant memory at one point, but right now we’re in it. We have to figure it out and I think we will.”Wade said communication, or a lack of it, has been at the root of Cleveland’s problems. With the league’soldest roster, it’s not a surprise that the Cavs are struggling defensively against younger, and in some cases, more athletic teams. But what it alarming is that the Cavs have been slow to correct their mistakes and teams are shooting so well against them. Cleveland’s opponents are making a league-high 42 percent of their 3-point attempts.Wade joked that it feels like teams are “shooting like 90 percent on open shots and 70 percent on contested shots.”“We have a long way to go defensively,” he said. “If we was at our best defensively and they was tagging us like this, it’d be red alert. Right now, as we said, we’ve got to continue to get our coverages down, our communication down.”ADVERTISEMENT MOST READ Robredo: True leaders perform well despite having ‘uninspiring’ boss PLAY LIST 02:49Robredo: True leaders perform well despite having ‘uninspiring’ boss02:42PH underwater hockey team aims to make waves in SEA Games01:44Philippines marks anniversary of massacre with calls for justice01:19Fire erupts in Barangay Tatalon in Quezon City01:07Trump talks impeachment while meeting NCAA athletes02:49World-class track facilities installed at NCC for SEA Games No more menthol cigarettes: New ban on tobacco, vape flavors Winter storm threatens to scramble Thanksgiving travel plans One of Cleveland’s most dependable players over the past few years, Thompson was injured in the second quarter Wednesday night in a loss to the Indiana Pacers. Foles, Eagles outshoot Patriots for 1st Super Bowl

first_imgSan Miguel reclaims lead SEA Games: PH still winless in netball after loss to Thais ‘We cannot afford to fail’ as SEA Games host – Duterte It was the first Super Bowl title for Philadelphia (16-3), which went from 7-9 last season to the franchise’s first NFL title since 1960.“If there’s a word (it’s) called everything,” Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said. “That’s what it means to Eagles fans everywhere. And for Eagles fans everywhere, this is for them.”Super Bowl MVP Foles orchestrated the victory with the kind of drive NFL MVP Brady, a five-time champion, is known for. The drive covered 14 plays, including a fourth-down conversion.“I felt calm. I mean, we have such a great group of guys, such a great coaching staff,” Foles said. “We felt confident coming in, and we just went out there and played football.”The Eagles had to survive a video replay because ball pop into the air as Ertz crossed the goal line.ADVERTISEMENT MINNEAPOLIS, MN – FEBRUARY 04: The Philadelphia Eagles celebrated defeating the New England Patriots 41-33 in Super Bowl LII at U.S. Bank Stadium on February 4, 2018 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images/AFPMINNEAPOLIS — The Philadelphia Eagles’ flight from last to first ended up with a Lombardi Trophy. In a record-setting shootout between Nick Foles and Tom Brady of the favored New England Patriots, the backup quarterback led a pressure-packed 75-yard drive to the winning touchdown, 11 yards to Zach Ertz with 2:21 to go Sunday night. Then a defense that had been shredded throughout the second half made two final stands to win 41-33.ADVERTISEMENT “If they would have overturned that, I don’t know what would have happened to the city of Philadelphia,” Ertz said. “But I’m so glad they didn’t overturn it.”The touchdown stood — and so did thousands of green-clad Eagles fans who weren’t going to mind the frigid conditions outside US Bank Stadium once they headed out to celebrate. But not before a rousing rendition of “Fly Eagles Fly” reverberated throughout the stands once the trophy was presented to Lurie. Later, fans danced along with the “Gonna Fly Now,” the theme from “Rocky,” the city’s best-known fictional underdog. The Patriots (15-4) seemed ready to take their sixth championship with Brady and coach Bill Belichick in eight Super Bowls. Brady threw for a game-record 505 yards and three TDs, hitting Rob Gronkowski for 4 yards before Stephen Gostkowski’s extra point gave New England its first lead, 33-32.Then Foles made them forget Wentz — and least for now — with the gutsiest drive of his life, including a fourth-down conversion to Ertz at midfield.Foles has been something of a journeyman in his six pro seasons, but he has been spectacular in four career playoff games. He finished 28 of 43 for 373 yards and three TDs.The combined 1,151 yards were the most in any modern NFL game, and Brady’s 505 were the most in any playoff contest. The 40-year-old master finished 28 of 48 and picked apart the Eagles until the final two series. It was such a wild game that Foles caught a touchdown pass, and Brady was on the opposite end of a Danny Amendola throw that went off his fingertips.Eagles coach Doug Pederson brought home the championship in his second year in charge. Belichick is 5-3 in Super Bowls and his teams have only a plus-4 overall margin in those games. So this one was in keeping with that trend: breathtaking and even a bit bizarre.Brady and the Patriots looked more like five-time champions by opening the second half with a 75-yard touchdown drive. Gronkowski was unstoppable, grabbing four passes for 69 yards, including the 5-yard score. Philly didn’t flinch, answering with a precise 75-yard march and three more third-down conversions; the Eagles were 10 for 16. The last was on Foles’ perfect pass to Clement over double coverage. The rookie’s reception was upheld by review, and the Eagles were back on top by 10.Brady shrugged and, getting steadfast protection, went over 400 yards passing on the next TD drive. Chris Hogan scored from the 26 as he turned around safety Rodney McLeod. When all the Eagles could manage was Elliott’s 42-yarder for a 32-26 lead, it seemed inevitable the Patriots would go in front, then become the first repeat Super Bowl winner since they did it in the 2004 and ’05 games.Foles, Ertz, and — at last — a revitalized defense said otherwise. The weird image of Brady ambling downfield on a pass pattern came three plays after New England lost receiver Brandin Cooks to a concussion on a vicious but clean hit by Malcolm Jenkins in the second quarter. Amendola’s pass required an over-the-shoulder grab and the ball fell off Brady’s outstretched hands. When he got back to what he has done better than anyone in Super Bowls, Brady led a 90-yard drive following an equally strange play. Alshon Jeffery nearly made a spectacular attempt near the Patriots’ goal line, only to juggle the ball into the air while off-balance. Duron Harmon picked it off at the 10. Moments later, Brady was connecting with Chris Hogan for 42 yards.James White broke several tackles with a brilliant 26-yard run and it was 15-12. That gave White seven touchdowns in his past three postseason games, including the overtime winner last year. But the Eagles still had 2:04 left in the half — and some more magic in their bag.A short third-down throw to rookie Corey Clement on a circle route turned into a 55-yard explosion down to the Patriots 8. Philly got to the 1 and on fourth down, it was Foles’ turn to morph into a receiver. He did better than Brady. On fourth down, Clement took a direct snap, pitched to tight end Trey Burton, and the former Florida QB hit an uncovered Foles. The Eagles were up 22-12 at halftime, the most points New England has allowed in the opening half of a Super Bowl under Belichick. Anti-Srini camp forces BCCI to have emergent meet on Sunday

first_imgBCCI is likely to hold an emergent working committee meet on Sunday It may not be to embattled BCCI chief N.Srinivasan’s liking, but notices have been sent today to state associations to have an emergent working committee meet on Sunday afternoon in Mumbai.A top BCCI official confirms that last night itself Interim President Shivlal Yadav had instructed the Secretary Sanjay Patel to convene such an emergent meet on Sunday. By having it on Sunday, the meeting holds significance as it would be in time before the BCCI files its reply to Supreme court, 24 hours before the hearing on 22nd. If the anti Srinivasan camp has its way in the meet, it’s stance in court may not have the blessings of Srinivasan. All this is following Rajasthan Cricket Association’s letter to BCCI asking the board to meet and discuss with the members before it files a reply to the Court. The country’s Apex court has sought a reply from the BCCI as to how it plans to investigate allegations against 13 people (players and administrators) including displaced BCCI President N Srinivasan, a list compiled by court appointed investigator Justice Mudgal. Many more in the anti-Srinivasan camp within the Board also joined the RCA Wednesday night itself in demanding a meet to update on the proceedings in court. RCA in the letter had also questioned the stance BCCI took in court alleging that it may still be taking instructions from certain individuals’, pointing a finger at Srinivasan, who continues to be restrained from functioning in his capacity as BCCI chief by the Apex court.advertisementlast_img read more

LG develops ‘World’s Narrowest Bezel’ for smartphones

first_imgSouth Korean electronics giant LG has unveiled a new 5.3-inch Full HD display panel for smartphones boasting a 0.7mm bezel on each side. Yes, you heard that right! At 0.7mm, LG’s latest piece of tech now stands firmly as the “world’s narrowest bezel” for smartphones, according to the company. The bezel is even narrower than the 0.8mm thickness of a normal credit card. The need for such a bezel stems from the customers’ growing demand for larger screen smartphones, claims the company.LG’s new display panel for smartphones sporting a mere 0.7mm bezel will give end-users a distinctly immersive experience since they will now have a much larger screen area without having to give up on a good grip and design, claims the company.        To achieve the desired results, LG Display has made use of two in-house technologies, namely the Neo Edge module processing technology and the Advanced In-Cell Touch (AIT) technology. While the Neo Edge technology uses an adhesive instead of a double-sided tape to seal the sides of the panel (to achieve minimal bezel width as also bring in waterproof and dustproof properties), the AIT technology essentially embeds the touch panel right into the LCD module itself to further reduce bezel space. The company is gearing up to begin mass production of the newly unveiled display in November this year with the first batch planned to be supplied initially to customers in China.last_img read more
